Democrats have been scrambling to save their bacon, after their terrible 2021. Then know they are in big trouble with the midterms around the corner. Their solution? Passing a set of “voting rights” bills that would destroy our democracy.
But they need to get rid of the filibuster to do it. Joe Biden tried to muster support for this idea, with a speech in Atlanta. That didn’t work. So, he was slated to appear before the Senate to badger them into obeying. But just before he appeared, moderate Sen. Sinema shattered his agenda.
From Fox News:
Liberal pundits melted down Thursday after U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., said she would not vote to weaken the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster threshold, bucking her party leaders yet again and dealing a major blow to Democrats’ election reform effort…
Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin, who has become known for her pivot to boosting Democrats after once holding conservative views, called Sinema’s decision “worse than incoherent or cowardice.”
It appears Sen. Sinema sparked a Democrat civil war after saying she would not vote to kill the filibuster. She did this just before Joe Biden appeared before the Senate to coerce them into doing just that. Liberals in the media melted down over her decision—despite the fact she has long held this view (as does Sen. Joe Manchin).
Leftists called her decisions “worse than cowardice,” and tried to connect her to Jim Crow and “vote-rigging.” Ironic, since the very bills Democrats support would make it impossible to stop people from rigging elections.
The bills would take voting from the states and abolish voter ID laws. It would give redistricting to software, which is developed by liberals.
And it makes universal mail-in voting required in all states—which has been one of the biggest sources of possible voter fraud.
But, no, Sinema is supporting Jim Crow because she doesn’t want Democrats to railroad their agenda through Congress! It’s pretty unbelievable how quickly the left betrays its own values if they think it will grant them more power. Democrats always use the filibuster to block bills they don’t like. They even did it yesterday!
Yet when a few Democrats make a sensible decision to preserve this rule, the knives are out. Chances are, Democrats will one day be thankful Sinema made this decision. Perhaps sooner than they realize.
