Over the last two weeks, the world has watched as Ukraine bravely fights off Russian forces. The invasion has been intense, with much loss of life. But Ukrainians have literally fought in the streets to defend their homeland. Some have even returned to the country, putting aside their civilian life, to pick up arms.
People around the world have shown support for the embattled country. But what would Americans do if they found their home invaded? Voters were asked what they would do in just such a situation. Would they run or fight to free their homeland? Guess what the majority of Democrats said they would do?
From Quinnipiac University:
As the world witnesses what is happening to Ukraine, Americans were asked what they would do if they were in the same position as Ukrainians are now: stay and fight or leave the country? A majority (55 percent) say they would stay and fight, while 38 percent say they would leave the country. Republicans say 68 – 25 percent and independents say 57 – 36 percent they would stay and fight, while Democrats say 52 – 40 percent they would leave the country.
Isn’t this interesting? A large majority of Republicans would stay and fight, if America was invaded—68% to 25%. Independent voters said much the same, they would fight—57% to 36%. But Democrats had a much different response. More than half, 52%, said they would leave the country. Only 40% would not leave.
Isn’t that odd? Now, it’s safe to say, nobody wants to fight an invasion. We want more peace in the world, not war. But when push comes to shove, it seems Republicans and independents have a little more of that fighting spirit that birthed this country than Democrats do. I wonder why?
To be clear, a portion of self-described Democrats said they would stay and fight. They probably live somewhere outside the far-left regions on the coasts. But most would rather flee, giving up their home, their rights, their freedoms—than risk death. What does that say about these Democrats?
Are they really so void of patriotism that they would turn tail and run? Wouldn’t they at least try to fight—and flee when they had no other options left?
