Kevin McCarthy Rules On Biden Impeachment – He Tells Republicans To Hold Their Horses On Political Action

All signs point to Republicans retaking at least the House, after the 2022 midterms. If that happens, there’s a good chance Kevin McCarthy will become Speaker of the House.

What are McCarthy’s plans, once he becomes Speaker? Some Republicans think he should begin the process to impeach Joe Biden. Murmurs have been growing among the GOP to impeach Biden, over a variety of issues.

But McCarthy isn’t ready to hit the “I” button. And he explains why.

From The Hill:

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) declined to throw his support behind impeaching President Biden, a move that several of his House Republican colleagues have called for, warning against doing so for “political purposes.”

“We believe in the rule of law,” McCarthy continued. “We’re not going to pick and choose just because somebody has power. We’re going to uphold the law. At any time, if someone breaks the law and the ramification becomes impeachment, we would move towards that. But we’re not going to use it for political purposes.”

McCarthy pushed back on calls from Republicans to impeach Biden over “political purposes.” Yes, Biden has been a terrible president. And yes, he’s done tremendous damage to the country thanks to his toxic policies.

But is any of that an “impeachable offense”? McCarthy doesn’t think so. He is urging Republicans not to drop the I-word simply because of politics.

McCarthy is playing a very careful game. Anyone that looks at Biden’s handling of the Southern border or his response to Afghanistan, could argue grounds for impeachment.

But rushing ahead like that, without proper evidence or investigations, is no different than what Democrats did to Trump (twice).

If Republicans want Americans to elect them to the majority in November, they have to show Americans they aren’t going to demand an eye for an eye, which will just lead to escalation from the Democrats. Republicans must prove they are better leaders to win in the midterms.

They can’t rush to the “I” button, just because they dislike Joe. A more reasonable course is to push for a cognitive examination, to get to the bottom of Joe’s mental decline.

Perhaps that will lay the groundwork for removal by the 25th Amendment? Regardless, Republicans can’t push Joe out just because they don’t like him.
