30 Republicans On Biden – They Fire Off Resolution To Remove Biden’s Asylum Rule

Currently, the Biden administration is battling a wave of backlash over their decision to lift Title 42. Some experts say it will result in a massive migration surge.

Republican leaders across multiple states have already slapped down lawsuits in protest, as the border crisis remains one of the most fiery debates in the political sphere.

Now, 30 More GOP Leaders Have Struck Yet Another Blow.

Led by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), this group of Republicans is taking aim at the White House’s asylum rule, which they argue only makes the border crisis even worse.

The rule in question was announced in August 2021 and is designed to slash processing time for asylum claims.

The GOP has been saying from the start that the plan just invites fraud, which is the driving force behind this effort by Biggs, who is joined by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI).

From Fox News:

The lawmakers are introducing a ‘joint resolution of disapproval’ under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) Thursday in order to remove a rule by the Biden administration that they say would ‘illegally upend’ the United States’ asylum system.

The asylum rule allows U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officers to examine asylum applications from travelers eligible for “expedited removal from the country.”

These people would have to pass a screening and there must be a “credible fear of persecution” from their country of origin.

For the time being, only immigration judges can weigh in and make decisions. Biden’s asylum rule gets around that.

And while Democrats say it would make things more efficient at the border, Republicans claim it would only up the number of “fraudulent asylum claims.”

They also worry that migrants won’t be detained while waiting for a decision, which is another problem according to many.

Said Sen. Johnson:

The Biden administration is sending a clear message: our borders are open, you will not be kept in custody, and you will not have to see a judge to stay here.

In a year where we have surpassed 2 million illegal crossings at the southern border, the proposed rule will only lead to more illegal migration for an already overwhelmed immigration system.

He added that his GOP colleagues stand against Biden’s “Reckless Attempt To Unconstitutionally Rewrite The Asylum Laws.

Rep. Biggs further said that the White House needs to end “catch and release policies” and start enforcing border, immigration, and citizenship law — a common request from Republicans in recent years.

Said Biggs:

Open border zealots within the Administration are drastically remaking our immigration system under the guise of enhancing humanitarian protections.

This couldn’t be further from the truth
