Supreme Court Leaker Could Be In Serious Trouble – GOP Just Launched Bill To Give The Leaker Prison Time

Supreme Court upped the investigation into its leaker this week. The justices demanded clerks’ phone records and made them sign affidavits.

Whoever leaked the draft could face serious consequences. And now, Republican lawmakers are trying to make it a federal crime.

Republican representatives introduced legislation that would make it a federal crime to leak confidential information from the Supreme Court on Tuesday…

The legislation would impose a prison sentence of up to five years on leaker if passed.

“The institution of the Court has been damaged, and we must do what we can to try to repair it,” Johnson said Tuesday.

Wow, this would really sting, if passed. The bill Republicans are proposing would make leaking Supreme Court documents a federal crime.

If someone was convicted, they could face up to five years in prison.

Many have explained that the leak, an unprecedented thing in itself, was an attempt to undermine the court’s authority.

We saw that happen in real-time. Abortion activists protested outside justices’ homes in an attempt to intimidate them into changing their decisions.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr claimed that the leak itself could be considered a crime. He said such a move was obstruction of justice, as it interfered with the court’s ability to decide an ongoing case.

These Republican lawmakers, though, aren’t taking any chances. They want a law on the books that clearly criminalizes leaking a SCOTUS document.

Will this bill make any traction—in this Congress? It’s hard to say. For this bill to pass, it needs enough liberal support.

Shockingly, liberals did not seem upset that someone leaked a confidential document from the Supreme Court, even though they were often upset when Trump and Republicans broke established norms in Washington.

And it is unlikely Biden would bother signing a bill like this.
