Republicans Battle Back With New Law – New Legislation Would Stop Federal Funding For Pro-Choice Travel

After the historic Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, states all across the nation began scrambling to pass their own laws. But the federal government isn’t sitting on its laurels, either.

Even though the ruling takes abortion control away from the federal side, the Biden administration still wants to push for abortion rights. This falls in line with their leftist agenda, of course.

However, Republicans Are Fighting Back — Two GOP Leaders Have Just Revealed A New Law That Might Stop Biden In His Tracks.

With red states cracking down on abortion, residents are looking to cross state lines into more abortion-friendly areas. We’ve heard reports of some big employers paying for this kind of travel, too.

In fact, late last month, the White House revealed they’re considering a similar approach.

At the time, Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Xavier Becerra said the Biden administration might help women cross state lines for abortion access. There was talk of “travel vouchers” for this as well.

Unsurprisingly, the idea didn’t sit well with conservative lawmakers.

So, Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter and New York Rep. Elise Stefanik have introduced a new piece of legislation, which is specifically designed to halt federal assistance for those trying to travel for abortion.

Via The Daily Caller:

Republican Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter and Republican New York Rep. Elise Stefanik introduced legislation Thursday that would prevent federal funding for transportation to get an abortion.

…the Defunding Abortion Transportation Act says that states cannot provide non-emergency medical transportation funds (NEMT) to transport individuals to receive an abortion.

Rep. Carter said in a statement that providing interstate travel to those looking for easier abortions is “wrong.”

He added that this new law will prevent the federal government from “subsidizing the death of unborn children.” Like most Republican leaders, he does not believe taxpayers should have to pay for such things.

Rep. Stefanik echoed this sentiment, stating clearly that “Taxpayer Dollars Should NEVER Fund Abortions.” Said the NY GOP member:

As the Biden administration attempts to subsidize access to states like New York run by Far-Left governments that continue to enable radical taxpayer-funded abortion on demand, I’m working to protect life by prohibiting states from providing transportation across state lines to terminate the life of the unborn.

There will be an ongoing battle between state and federal government in the wake of the Roe v. Wade decision.

This administration has made it plain that they’re pro-choice, so they’re not about to let the SCOTUS ruling go without more of a fight. As far as they’re concerned, it’s a healthcare issue for women.

On the other hand, those celebrating the pro-life decision say the federal government must now stay out of the issue entirely.

And if leftists get too violent in protesting this issue, Republicans have another proposed law that seeks to seriously punish pro-choice protesters. At the very least, pro-life supporters will feel safer.

As for tax dollars being spent on abortions in any way, that’s an idea the GOP will keep fighting against.
