Judge Tosses Sidney Powell’s Countersuit Against Dominion Voting Systems

Notable Trump-supporting attorney Sidney Powell lost a key court battle on Wednesday when a federal judge in Washington, D.C., dismissed her suit against Dominion Voting Systems.

The ruling opens the door for Dominion to continue pursuing its $1.3 billion defamation suit against Powell.

In his three-page ruling, Judge Carl Nichols granted Dominion’s request to dismiss the case, noting that Powell failed to show that Dominion’s actions “constituted an abuse of justice.”

An excerpt from the ruling reads:

“Powell’s complaint fails to link her abuse-of-process claim to any act that Dominion has taken other than filing and pursuing its lawsuit. She has thus failed to state a claim for abuse of process.”

Nichols was appointed to the federal district court in D.C. by former President Trump.

Earlier this year, the same judge dismissed a similar suit advanced by MyPillow’s CEO Mike Lindell.

In 2021, Lindell lodged a complaint against Dominion and voting machine supplier Smartmatic. Nichols rejected requests by Powell, Lindell and Rudolph Giuliani to dismiss Dominion’s defamation suits against them.

Dominion’s suit against Powell stems from the alleged defamatory statements Powell made about the company as former President Donald Trump contested the results of the 2020 election.

The Hill noted that Dominion’s and Powell’s attorneys did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
