DeSantis Sends Trump a Bold Message – Ron Says He Would Have Definitely Fired Dr. Doom

What’s Happening:

Despite Democrats’ best efforts, Donald Trump is still leading in the 2024 GOP primaries. Not only that, but numerous polls have him ahead of Joe Biden in the general election. But hot on Trump’s heels is Ron DeSantis. The Florida governor might be days away from announcing his own presidential campaign.

DeSantis has enjoyed massive success in the Sunshine State. He attributes it, not to luck, but strong leadership–even during serious crises. He has helped the state thrive during COVID and a damaging hurricane. And now, it looks like he is setting his sights on the Donald himself. Because the governor just dropped the gauntlet on him.

From Fox News:

Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., drew contrast between his and former President Donald Trump’s handling of COVID-19, saying he would have “fired” Dr. Anthony Fauci if he were president during the pandemic…

“The approach to COVID was different. I would have fired somebody like Fauci. I think he got way too big for his britches, and I think he did a lot of damage,” DeSantis told Morgan.

Woah. DeSantis criticized Trump’s handling of the COVID pandemic. The governor said there were a few things he would have done differently, had he been in Trump’s place. He specifically mentioned he would have fired Anthony Fauci, who served as Trump’s advisor during the response.

Fauci was the loudest supporter of lockdowns–which ended up slamming the economy. Most experts agree today that lockdowns did not help “slow the spread.” Fauci seemed to relish the media attention the pandemic brought him. Many believe he is a Democrat that deliberately tried to hurt Trump’s presidency.

DeSantis said Fauci got “too bid for his britches.” I’m sure most Americans will agree. Fauci was outed for lying to the public about masks. He was a strong supporter of liberty-violating policies like Biden’s vaccine mandates.

You have to wonder why Trump was listening to Fauci, especially after it became clear that the lockdowns were a disaster. Not only did Trump not fire Fauci, but the hated doctor remained in the federal government through the Biden administration. He got to retire, no doubt receiving a massive pension.

Trump might be critical of DeSantis in recent days, but he can’t come back from this. The former president let Fauci dictate the narrative, which sunk the country–and Trump’s 2020 re-election chances. Today, Trump is trying to claw back some momentum, leaning on the first three years of his term in office.

But had he fired Fauci on day one… maybe he’d still be in office?

Key Takeaways:

  • DeSantis criticized Trump’s leadership during COVID, contrasting his own decisions.
  • DeSantis said he would have fired Fauci, the man who pushed lockdowns and mandates.
  • Trump has long criticized DeSantis’s leadership, ignoring the Republican’s massive success.
