Hours After Lindsey Graham Calls For Putin Takedown – Even Ted Cruz Joins In Opposition Some Call For Resignation

The world watches in frustration as Russia continues to bombard the sovereign nation of Ukraine. World leaders have made bold statements, but nobody seems to be willing to take on Putin. Are our leaders a bunch of cowards? Is this really all that the U.S., E.U., and U.N. can do?

We can’t help but wonder what would have happened if we had someone else in the White House?

So, you can understand how a person like Lindsey Graham, a normally level-headed and sensible senator, calls for severe action. From Fox News:

Sen. Lindsey Graham Thursday called for Russians to “step up” and kill President Vladimir Putin amid Russia’s brutal war on Ukraine – then doubled down on the comments Friday morning.

“Somebody in Russia has to step up to the plate. Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military,” Graham, R-S.C., said on “Hannity.”

A pretty extreme thing to mention, given the sky-high tensions, felt all over the world. In fact, fellow Republican Sen. Cruz criticized Graham’s comments.

From The Hill:

“This is an exceptionally bad idea. Use massive economic sanctions; BOYCOTT Russian oil & gas; and provide military aid so the Ukrainians can defend themselves. But we should not be calling for the assassination of heads of state,” the Texas senator said in response.

Others went further, calling on Graham to resign.

From Twitter:

JUST IN 🚨 Many on Twitter call Senator Lindsay Graham to resign after his comment that somebody should ‘take out’ Putin

Numerous people rejected Sen. Graham’s suggestion that someone in Russia assassinate Putin. Ted Cruz, normally an ally of the Republican, said it was an “exceptionally bad idea.” The typical choir on Twitter demanded the senator resign over the comments. It is unlikely he will do so.

But why is there such strong backlash to Graham’s statement? It seems people are more upset with him saying it than with everything Putin’s done in the last week! We are not advocating for more violence. But ever since Russia invaded Ukraine our leaders have come off as wimps who are bowing to Putin’s rhetoric.

Putin just had to say “nuclear” and the combined might of the world’s leaders ran away with their tails between their legs. Why aren’t our leaders turning up the heat against Putin? Cruz offered some reasonable alternatives: massive sanctions, banning Russian oil, and military aid to Ukraine (which would include providing weapons and strategy, if not manpower). All would help turn the tide in this war.
